Title of proposed research centre

Provide a clear and concise title which adequately identifies the research programme.

Abstract

Give a short summary of the research proposed in non-technical language.

Research proposal

In no more than 1,000 words provide a description of the research to be undertaken whilst at the University of Leicester. This section should address the following issues (although they need not be addressed in this order nor need to be of equal length):

  • Background to the proposed research, how does it build upon previous research projects?
  • How will the research be developed intellectually over the short (three years), medium (five years) and longer terms?
  • What are the development plans for a research unit/centre over the short and medium terms?
  • What might the size and staff structure of a research unit/centre be like in the short and medium terms?
  • Are there specific individuals (other than the applicant) who are critical to the success of the project and who you would wish to relocate to the University of Leicester?
  • How will the proposed research relate and intersect with existing research undertaken at the University of Leicester?
  • What is the interdisciplinary nature of the proposed research?
  • How will the research be sustained financially over the medium and longer terms? What income streams will be generated?
  • Who, potentially, might the key collaborators be, both nationally and internationally? 

Main outcomes of the proposed research programme

Outline the key predicted outcomes of the proposed research, explaining what returns the University will get for its investment. This could include, for example, the following types of outcomes:

  • development of new theory or methodology
  • collection of new data/information/research resources
  • contributions to knowledge/understanding
  • contributions to policy/practice
  • product development (software, patents etc.)
  • innovation and business/commercial collaboration
  • REF2014 outputs

Likely impact of the proposed research

Give brief details of the potential impact (beyond academia) arising from the research, in societal, economic or cultural terms, and how this will be demonstrated.

Specific space requirements, where known

If the proposed project is dependent on specific space/accommodation requirements, please provide brief description.

Specific equipment, IT or related resource requirements, where known

If the proposed research is dependent on supporting research infrastructure (such as specialised equipment) please provide a brief description of the requirement.
