With Elaine Feinstein, Angela Leighton, John Lucas, Peter Robinson, Gregory Woods.

Chairs: Holly Furneaux and Peter Robinson

The Festival’s celebration of the Dickens bi-centenary continues with this panel of award-winning modern authors. They will discuss the creative role of Dickens in their work, and read their new poems responding to the life and work of this most enduringly popular of novelists.

Prompted by incidents from his life, the characters and plots of his fiction, or their afterlife in other arts and cultural memory, these poems offer a series of intimate glimpses into Dickens’s place in the current poetic imagination.

The event is sponsored by the English Association (which is hosted by the University of Leicester), and marks the publication of the collection A Mutual Friend: Poems for Charles Dickens edited by Peter Robinson.

The Charles Dickens exhibition in the David Wilson Library is open throughout the festival.
