Lecture summary
Schools and universities are being encouraged to adapt, extend and strengthen their joint work in the areas of teachers’ professional learning, leadership capacity-building, research and development, and networking. The current Teaching School policy initiative in England provides a strong national policy context for such joint work. In this lecture, I would like to explore what is distinctive about the contributions of universities and schools to these areas; what can universities and schools learn and do better through working in partnership, and the issues, conflicts and debates that relate to school-university partnerships and that influence their promise for supporting development of learning in classrooms, schools and networks.
