How to get there

Botanic Garden

The Botanic Garden is situated about three miles south-east of Leicester city centre, opposite Leicester Racecourse. The visitor entrance is on Glebe Road. (LE2 2LD)

By bus: from the city centre or railway station catch an Arriva 31/31A or Arriva 80/80A and alight at Glebe Road.

By car: from M1 junction 21 follow the ring road A563 to its junction with the A6 at Oadby. The Botanic Garden backs on to the roundabout at this junction. Turn left, then immediately right, into Glebe Road (see map). If you are using a satnav, then the post code for the public entrance is LE2 2LD.

Attenborough Arboretum

The Attenborough Arboretum is situated about one mile south-east of Leicester city centre, in South Knighton at the top of Carisbrooke Road (see map). (LE2 3PF)

By bus: from the city centre or railway station catch an Arriva 44 and alight at Carisbrooke Road, Arboretum stop.

By car: from M1 junction 21 follow the ring road A563 to its junction with the A6 at Oadby. Turn left towards Leicester, left into Shanklin Drive and then right into Carisbrooke Rd. (see map above).

Admission

Botanic Garden

Entrance to the Botanic Garden is FREE unless there is a special event.

Opening times are:

      Nov to March 10am-4pm every day

      April to Oct 10am - 5pm every day

      Closed on Christmas day

Guided tours can be arranged at a cost of £3.50 per person. Please telephone 0116 271 2933 or email us at botanicgarden@le.ac.uk to make a booking. There is no limit to group size: parties are subdivided on arrival into sets of about ten people, each set being allocated to a trained guide.

Attenborough Arboretum

Entrance to the Attenborough Arboretum is FREE (unless there is a special event).

The new public opening times are as follows:

  • Monday-Friday, 10am to 3.30pm (3pm on Fridays), except bank holidays and University closure days.
  • Weekends closed to the public

Accessibility

At both sites:

Toilets, including disabled access, are available. Paths are suitable for wheelchair users.

Regulations

The following are not permitted in the Botanic Garden or Arboretum:

    • ball or frisbee games
    • radios or similar equipment
    • dogs, except guide dogs
    • unaccompanied children
    • picking of plant material

Wedding photographs

You are most welcome to take wedding photographs in the Botanic Garden during our standard opening hours (see above), but it is essential that you book in advance (phone 0116-271-7725). There is a charge of £30 per session.

Please note that the arrangement relates solely to photography. We regret that we do not allow drinks, picnics, confetti or music in the Garden on these occasions.
