Students to showcase their comedic charm
LUTheatre performing for city’s 16th annual Comedy Festival
Europe’s biggest comedy festival is back and looks set to be bigger than ever this year for the 16th annual Leicester Comedy Festival. The star-studded 17 day comedic delight includes famous names such as Jimmy Carr, Julian Clary and Sean Lock as well as the University of Leicester’s very own student group, LUTheatre who will be performing their Proteus productions at the Crumblin’ Cookie on February 15, 16, 17 and 20th from 8.00pm in what promises to be an unmissable evening of comic sketches written and performed by Leicester’s students.
LUTheatre began performing Proteus 18 months ago as a way of showcasing the talents of new writers and performers and guarantee that no two performances will be the same. The show features an ever-changing group of writers and actors showcasing original material ranging from tragedy to comedy via the mediums of musical theatre, traditional stage acting and even mime.
LUTheatre president, Sam Illingworth, commented:
“We will be presenting an evening of merriment and mirth at the Crumblin’ Cookie. The sketches that will be performed range from Richard Attenborough to a musical about waiting for a bus.
“We are very excited to have been invited to perform in this year’s Comedy Festival as it marks a homecoming of sorts, with LUTheatre having been really involved with Comedy Festivals of the past. We hope that this is the re-ignition of a blossoming relationship and that with the redevelopment of the Students’ Union, the University of Leicester might even be hosting its own events next year.”
The seventy-five minute comedy show, Proteus by LUTheatre, will be taking place at the Crumblin’ Cookie on February 15, 16, 17 and 20th. Tickets are £4 for students and £5 for adults and are available from the Union’s box office or lastminute.com doors open at 7.30pm.
