Festival of Postgraduate Research 2010: Deadline for papers approaching!

The sixth annual Festival of Postgraduate Research will take place on Thursday 24 June 2010. The call for papers is now open. Deadline for applications: 11th February.

The University of Leicester's Festival of Postgraduate Research showcases the latest research being undertaken by its doctoral students at a one-day poster exhibition, followed by a keynote speech and an award ceremony. The event is designed to allow the next generation of researchers to discuss their research with the general public, media and representatives of government and business.

As a postgraduate researcher, this is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate your skill in communicating sophisticated ideas in clear, accessible language and to publicise your research to new, non-specialist audiences, thereby making useful contacts beyond your subject discipline. There will also be the opportunity to win substantial prizes provided by employers for the best presentations. In addition, the best exhibitors will be asked to represent the University of Leicester at a regional competition organised by Vitae Midlands Hub.

Application procedure:

Those wishing to be considered for inclusion in the Festival must fill in an application form. The call for papers will close on Thursday 11 February 2010. The form will request relevant information about the applicant and, for selection purposes, a prospective poster title and a statement explaining the importance of the applicant’s research and its relevance to the general public. Applications will be assessed on their merit by the Research Student Team, with advice from academic departments.
