Professor of Criminology co-edits new valuable resource for the Department

Professor Yvonne Jewkes from the University of Leicester’s Department of Criminology has co-edited a new publication that is set to become a valuable resource in the world of Internet Crime.

Co-edited alongside Majid Yar, Professor of Sociology at the University of Hull, the Handbook of Internet Crime was published by Willan Publishing in November 2009 and brings together leading international experts from criminology, media studies, sociology and law to explore some of the most challenging debates facing scholars interested in cybercrime, deviance, policing, law and regulation in the 21st century.

The collection of 28 chapters touches on a wide range of criminal activities including digital piracy and cyber-terrorism. As well as co-editing the book, Professor Jewkes also authored a chapter entitled ‘Public policing and Internet crime’.

She commented:

“The Handbook of Internet Crime has been an exciting project to work on. It is the most ambitious and comprehensive book on cybercrime to date, and includes chapters by some of the most well-known international scholars from a range of disciplines.

“Majid and I have worked together previously and find that our writing and editing skills complement each other very well, so all in all, this was a real pleasure to be involved in.”

International experts have contributed to the collection, including: Janet Chan (Professor in the School of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of New South Wales, Australia), James Curran (Professor of Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London), Dorothy Denning (Professor of Defence Analysis at the Naval Postrgraduate School, California USA), Ian Walden (Professor of Information and Communications Law at Queen Mary, University of London) and David Wall (Professor of Criminal Justice and Information Society at the University of Leeds.

This new criminology textbook is set to become a valuable resource for the modules taught within Leicester’s Department of Criminology and the wider realm of Internet crime.
