Students’ Union Bid Farewell to Phil Kirk

Phil Kirk, General Manager of the University of Leicester Students’ Union has retired after 32 years of service.

University of Leicester staff gathered at the Lounge, Percy Gee building to say farewell to him.

Phil joined the Students' Union as the Financial Controller before he was appointed the Union Manager in 1991.

During his administration, the Students’ Union won many awards, including “Students’ Union of the Year”.

Kumaran, who is now the Acting General Manager of the Union said: "Phil has made a substantial contribution to the Students' Union over the past 32 years. He has been an excellent role model and a mentor to me. I will greatly miss his expertise and guidance"

Graham Ross, Services Officer of the Students’ Union said: "Phil Kirk has been instrumental in the successful running of the Students' Union and his retirement is a great loss to the students of Leicester as well as everyone that works here. Phil's support and expertise, as well as his ability to forge excellent relationships with sabbaticals year after year has seen him push student officers into reaching their full potential in their term in office. I know that personally, Phil has taught me many lessons that I will heed throughout my life and it's thanks to his guidance that I have been able to make the most of being a sabbatical officer."
