Prestigious award for Mental Health Specialist

Honorary Senior Lecturer honoured by the International Psycho-Oncology Society

Dr Alex Mitchell has been awarded the Hiroomi Kawano New Investigator Award at the recent World Congress of Psycho-Oncology in Vienna.

On receiving the award Dr Mitchell said "It is a great honour to receive this award which would not have been possible without outstanding work from our psycho-oncology nurse specialists Chris Coggan and Sue Todd. I look forward to working with colleagues internationally to try and improve unmet psychological needs amongst cancer patients."

Dr Mitchell is an honorary senior lecturer in the department of cancer and molecular medicine and a consultant liaison psychiatrist in Leicestershire Partnership Trust.

Dr Mitchell's work on clinical diagnosis, screening and scales has been internationally recognized. He has published 3 books and about 100 publications which was considered remarkable for an NHS clinician. Dr Mitchell recently setup the website www.psycho-oncology.info to provided education and help to those interested in psychological aspects of cancer care.
