10 year anniversary event on Tuesday 17 November
Museum Studies Centre celebrates a decade of world-class research
The University of Leicester’s Research Centre for Museums and Galleries (RCMG), part of the School of Museum Studies, marks its 10 year anniversary with a special event on Tuesday 17th November at 6pm
Since the Research Centre for Museums and Galleries (RCMG) was set up in 1999, the landscape of learning in museums has been transformed and the way museums think about their social roles and responsibilities has radically shifted. This anniversary event invites three key figures who have been part of these exciting changes to discuss and debate trends in museum thinking and practice.
The three speakers are Mark O’Neill (Head of Arts and Museum, Culture and Sport Glasgow), Sue Wilkinson (Director of Policy and Sustainability, Museum Libraries and Archives Council), and Samantha Heywood (Director of Learning and Interpretation, Imperial War Museum).
The event will also be a chance to see the Research Centre’s new home, the new Museum Studies Building on University Road. The School now has much more space and some terrific facilities.
Jocelyn Dodd, Director of RCMG, said:
“This event provides a great opportunity to not only look back at the transformations that have taken place over the past decade but forward too. We are delighted that such key figures in the sector, known internationally for their work, are coming to participate.”
The event is taking place on Tuesday 17th November in the Lecture Hall, Museum Studies Building, University of Leicester. Meet at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.
The event is free and open to the public.
