Winners announced in the Students' Union campaign to recognise good teaching across campus
For the past four weeks, the Students’ Union has been running an ‘I love my academic’ campaign to recognise good teaching. Students were encouraged to nominate an academic that they thought was particularly engaging, innovative or supportive in their teaching.
We have had a phenomenal response with over 700 student nominations across our four colleges and are pleased to announce our four overall college winners who were deemed to have the best supporting statement with their nomination and not the most overall number of nominations.
College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology
Dr Bob. Norman
“I am really grateful to students who took their time to nominate me. It is very nice to have one’s work recognised in this way…it is all part of the service.”
College of Social Sciences
Dr Ipek Demir
“I would like to thank all the students who took the trouble to nominate me for this award. It's very gratifying to see that my efforts are recognised and appreciated by the students.”
College of Arts, Humanities and Law
Christopher Bisping
“I am thrilled to receive this award in recognition of my teaching. This award highlights the importance of teaching for Universities and supports the endeavours to have teaching recognised as equal to research. I would like to thank my students for nominating me and for making teaching a pleasure.”
College of Science and Engineering
Dr Geoff Folkard
“I am touched. I put a lot of effort into teaching and am very appreciative of the students’ appreciation. It is nice to get recognition in this regard.”
Every academic that received a nomination from their students will be sent a certificate from the Students’ Union. For a full list of winners please click here.
