Hallmark Cards will contribute £20,000 to Breast Cancer Campaign’s research project at the University of Leicester this Mother’s Day as part of its annual £1/4 million ‘Cards for a Cure™’ campaign.

Breast Cancer Campaign Patron, Rosemary Conley CBE will visit the University of Leicester to meet Dr Paul Symonds and Dr George Tanteles to find out more about the vital research and how the £20,000 will be used.

It is the second year running that the University of Leicester project will benefit from Hallmark’s contribution. By Mother’s Day this year the project will have received over £46,000 towards its breast cancer research.

Rosemary Conley CBE, said: “The Breast Cancer Campaign funded research that is being carried out at The University of Leicester is extremely important and it was an honor for me to be invited to find out more and meet with the researchers and doctors involved in this important work.

“The £20,000 contribution from Hallmark’s Cards for a Cure™ campaign will certainly make a significant impact and I am pleased to be involved in raising awareness about the disease.”

Tamsyn Johnston, Communications Manager at Hallmark Cards, said, “Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and affects many thousands of women and men every year, as well as impacting on the lives of friends and family.

“It is for this reason that the research being carried out by the University of Leicester is so significant as crucially it may one day help to find a cure for people with breast cancer worldwide. Our Cards for a Cure™ campaign donation directly benefits this on-the-ground research and is vital to ensuring that it can continue.

“2010 marks a landmark year for the Cards for a Cure™ campaign, which has now donated £1 million to Breast Cancer Campaign’s research projects across the UK and Action Breast Cancer. All contributions have been made irrespective of card sales and as part of our corporate giving programme.

“Mother’s Day is a poignant time of the year for all UK families which is why we chose this occasion to support the vital research that is being carried out into finding a prevention, treatment or cure for this life-changing disease.”

The Cards for a Cure™ campaign, which sees Hallmark contribute £1/4 million to Breast Cancer Campaign’s UK wide research projects and Action Breast Cancer, a programme of the Irish Cancer Society, is now in its third year. Since 2007 the greeting cards retailer has provided £3/4 million towards research into the treatment and prevention of this life changing disease.

All Hallmark Mother’s Day cards will have the internationally recognisable pink ribbon on the front of every card. The £1/4 million contribution will be made irrespective of card and gift sales.
