Cycle thefts alert

Advice for staff and students leaving cycles on campus

The University has experienced an increase in cycle theft throughout the main campus. Cyclists are advised to secure their cycles at one of the recognised cycle racks with a substantial D - Lock or Chain.

The University of Leicester has a Coded Cycle Scheme that aims to reduce the incidents of cycle theft on University property. The scheme involves a series of measures to promote cycle security, and was initiated by the Estates Security Section with the support of the Students’ Union and the Leicestershire Constabulary.

Students and staff have the opportunity to buy the acclaimed Squire “Urban Protector 230” D Lock which has a Sold Secure 3 minute attack resistance standard and usually retails at £34.99 for the reduced price of £10 for students with a NUS Xtra card and £15.00 for University Staff and students without a NUS Xtra card.
