Staff training and development activities

Take a look at some of the training and development workshops due to be held shortly.

What is Blackboard?, Wed 10 Feb 2010 (12.30pm - 2.00pm) - This short session provides a 'hands-on' introduction to the features of Blackboard - the University's virtual learning environment (VLE). It provides a basis for using Blackboard to support a range of academic and administrative functions and will provide you with the background you need to begin working with the VLE.

Designing an Online Course (Blackboard), Wed 10 Feb 2010 (2.30pm - 5.00pm) - This session explores how to plan, design and construct a Blackboard course site. A number of tools available within the Blackboard system will also be examined to determine the role that they can play in the creation of an effective online course.

Developing Access Databases, Fri 12 Feb 2010 (9.30am - 1.00pm) - Do you want to develop your database in a supportive group environment? This course will allow you to increase your knowledge of Access databases through sharing your knowledge with the group as well as learning some advanced queries and ways to enhance your database.

Online Course Content (Blackboard), Tue 16 Feb 2010 (9.30am - 12.00pm) - This session explores resources that can be made available through your Blackboard course sites. Approaches to creating activities around resources will also be examined.

SPR: Introduction to Linux, Tue 16 Feb 2010 (1.00pm - 5.00pm) - The course will provide users with an Introduction to the Linux operating system. In particular we will focus on use of Linux from the command line. No prior knowledge of Linux is assumed and the course should be suitable both for those new to Linux and those wanting a refresher course.

From Absence to Attendance, Thu 18 Feb 2010 (2.00pm - 4.30pm) - This is a course on managing sickness absence in the workplace. Today and every working day of the year, something like a million people fail to attend work due to sickness. Effective management of sickness absence will impact positively on individuals and benefit the organisation as a whole. This is a practical course covering the basics of managing sickness absence positively, within the law and making use of support available.
