A fellowship interview can have a profound effect on your career. It is vital to prepare as thoroughly as possible, and this course will help you do so through expert communication training and realistic rehearsal.
SSPS - Data Management and Introduction (SPR event)
Introduction to different types of data, sensible data collection, how to enter data into SPSS and basic data management.
Online Communication and Collaboration (Blackboard)
This session will show you how you can use the tools in Blackboard to improve your communication with your students and enable them to collaborate more easily with each other. We will use ‘hands-on’ activities to show you what tools are available, how to use them and how they can help you in your teaching.
Manual Handling Training
Includes practical exercises and group participation. Provides practical knowledge of the principles of safer handling, enabling staff to move objects safely, avoid injury and be able to carry out basic manual handling risk assessments.
Recuitment and Selection
All aspects of the recruitment process will be explored to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to recruit and select the right person for the job. Participants will have the chance for skills practice in the afternoon.
An Introduction to Using NVivo in Qualitative Research (SPR event)
This course provides a practical introduction to the capabilities of NVivo and discusses how it may be used in different types of research projects.
Examining PhD Theses (SPR event)
The course is run by the Academic Practice Unit in conjunction with the Graduate School and explores the main issues to be considered at the three different stages involved in examining a doctoral thesis – preparing for the viva, during the viva and after the viva.

Guidance through planning methods to give you practical planning experience and improve your knowledge and confidence in web skills generally. It focuses on the University’s web environment (Plone Content Management System) and best practice guidelines.

Most UG and Masters courses include a final individual research project or dissertation. Supervision for these activities is a major factor in students’ effectiveness. This course will explore the role of the supervisor and help to equip participants to undertake such a role.

A half day course for Managers/Team leaders currently or likely to be involved in the job evaluation process or with extensive involvement in recruitment of staff.
Coaching Skills for Managers
This workshop will give managers basic coaching skills and provide an opportunity to practice these skills.
