Exchange Schemes

Spend part of your course abroad (in Sweden, Poland or the USA) and expand your sociological imagination! According to HEFCE (Source: Attainment in Higher Education, Erasmus and Placement Students), year abroad students:

  • are more likely to be employed six months after graduating
  • have above average salaries (especially if they are not language graduates)
  • are more likely to be employed abroad

Erasmus Exchange (Sweden or Poland)

The Department of Sociology participates in the European Exchange Programme (SOCRATES-ERASMUS) which allows you to study at another European university as part of your course. [Click on this link for more information from the University International Office]

We have agreements with universities in Sweden (Lund) and Poland (Krakow) for the exchange of students wishing to study abroad. Both are leading sociological institutions in Europe. Both universities are situated in beautiful, historic university towns.

Everyone who has been on the Erasmus program will testify to the great intellectual and social value of spending several months living and studying in another European city. As one student put it: "I really enjoyed my time in Sweden! The time I stayed there enhanced me both socially and educationally – I would thoroughly recommend it!" Another described it as "... a mind broadening experience – the worst thing is the fact you have to leave and say goodbye to so many good friends."
