Diasporas, Multiculturalism and European Identity
Leicester Sociologist Ipek Demir will lead a session on ‘Diasporas, Multiculturalism and European Identity’ at the European Science Foundation funded workshop on ‘The Crisis of European Cosmopolitanism in the Age of Austerity: Multiculturalism and Colonial Legacies’. Doing Interdisciplinary Research: Summer School
Leicester Sociologist Ipek Demir will run a workshop on ‘Doing Interdisciplinary Research: A Type of Creolisation?’ at the Social Science Research Council International Summer School on ‘Postcolonial Identities and Decolonial Struggles: Creolisation and Coloured Cosmopolitanism’. The event is open to doctoral students based at universities within the US and first-year doctoral students based at universities within the United Kingdom. The dates of the summer school are 28 May to 2 June 2013.

MSc/MA Bursaries for UK/EU Students: Deadline 30 April
We are pleased to offer two part-fee bursaries for September 2013 entry to our full-time campus based Masters degree programmes (MSc Social Research, MA Contemporary Sociology). The bursaries are open to new UK/EU applicants and are worth £1,000 payable as a reduction of the course fee. Applications received after 30 April 2013 will not be eligible for these bursaries but those who have already applied for 2013 will also be considered. [Click on this link for more information]

Research Development Fund 2012/2013
The College of Social Science has set aside a total of £100,000 in its budget to the Research Development Fund (RDF) for the academic year 2012/2013.
College of Social Science funding for research student reading groups, discussion groups etc
We are pleased to announce that the College is now able to provide funding for tea, coffee and biscuits to support initiatives such as reading/ discussion groups or groups where students present their work to each other, where these are organized on the students' initiative. This is in order that we support activities which are ongoing in some departments and Schools (Economics, Education and Management), and encourage other initiatives of this kind.

Refugee Women Book Launch at UEL
The CMRB (Centre for Research on Migration, Refugees and Belonging) will host a book launch for "Refugee Women: Beyond Gender versus Culture" by Leicester Sociologist Leah Bassel on 18th March 2013 (1600-1800). Editorial Board Appointment
