Information for Visiting Students
If you are currently at a university in another country and would like to spend some time studying Politics in Leicester, you may be able to come to the department on either the Study Abroad or Erasmus Programme.
Study Abroad Programme
Students may come to Leicester on the Study Abroad scheme. Places are always available on our first and second year modules.
All undergraduate Politics and International Relations modules last one semester and are worth 20 credits. Since students study 60 credits per semester, this means that three modules is a full workload for half a year. Our modules are taught by either lectures and tutorials, or by seminars.
If you want to take a Politics module, it's very important that you arrive at the beginning of the semester (late September or late January). We usually welcome our new Study Abroad students on the first Monday or Tuesday afternoon of the semester.
If you would like more information about studying in the Department of Politics and International Relations, please visit the University of Leicester's International Office Study Abroad page.
The Department of Politics and International Relations accepts students from EU countries only through the ERASMUS programme. Unfortunately, the programme is only available to students from partner departments.
Partner universities of the Department of Politics and International Relations
We have long-standing ERASMUS links with five universities:
- Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia
Justus Liebig University, Giessen, Germany
- Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany
- University of Liège, Belgium
- University of Pécs, Hungary
Students at these universities should talk to the ERASMUS coordinator at their own university to see if they can be nominated to come to Leicester.
Study possibilities for ERASMUS students from partner departments
(For students from Bratislava, Giessen, Jena, Liège, Pécs ONLY)
Students who come to Leicester through the Department of Politics and International Relations ERASMUS programme must study mostly Politics modules.
You can study up to 30 ECTS credits (60 University of Leicester credits) each semester. We can sometimes arrange for you to take up to 10 ECTS credits per semester in another department. For example, special English language courses for ERASMUS students are available. If you request a module in another department on your application form, please give at least one, and preferably two, alternative Politics module which you could take instead.
Erasmus students can also take third year modules, as well as first and second year courses, but please give plenty of alternatives as numbers are limited on these modules and they may be full.
If you have any queries, please contact the International Office.
