The Practical Application of Space Research Science and Engineering to Healthcare and Bioscience

A joint event between Medilink – the organisation that provides specialist support to companies in the East Midlands healthcare sector - and the University of Leicester’s Space Research Centre (“SRC”) was held at Leicester on 12 March 2009.

Members of staff of Space Research Centre presented case studies on how the outcome of their research into specialist sensors and instrumentation designed for use on space missions was being applied to solve practical problems arising in the Healthcare and Bioscience markets.

The event was introduced by Professor George Fraser  - the Director of the Space Research Centre – who outlined the wide range of transferable technologies emanating from the SRC and the opportunities this offered in a number of markets from the detection of counterfeit products to the analysis of microarrays.

This was followed by four presentations illustrating case studies where space technology and science was being applied to healthcare and bioscience markets.

Copies of the presentations and a copy of a flyer describing the event programme and pen pictures of each of the presenters, can be downloaded by following the links at the end of this page.
