Primary Research Areas

Climate Change Adaptation Technology

The field of Climate Change Adaptation Technologies draws upon a wide range of academic and industrial disciplines to identify and create solutions to challenges created by climate change. Such challenges include implications of changes in temperature and rainfall patterns, with knock-on effects on key systems including agriculture, hydrology and atmospheric chemistry. My current research is predominantly focussed on urban management systems, with particular reference to transport and air quality.

CityScan - The Pollution scanner
CityScan is a novel instrument developed at the University of Leicester which uses scattered sunlight to measure concentrations of nitrogen dioxide over urban environments. The instruments have been demonstated in Leicester and London in 2011/2012, and will be measuring in the Po Valley in June 2012, followed by a major campaign in London during the Olympic Games as part of the NERC-funded ClearfLo campaign.

iTRAQ - Integrated traffic and air quality managment

iTRAQ is a project to develop a dynamic traffic management system for optimising use of the road network whilst meeting growing demands to sustain high standards of air quality in urban environments. The iTRAQ system was successfully demonstrated in Leicester in 2011, and development options into 2013 are currrently under investigation.
