Raman Spectroscopy, Astrobiology and Mars
Dr Ian Hutchinson, Space Projects and Instrumentation
Supervisor : Dr Ian Hutchinson (ibh1@le.ac.uk)
Details of Project
This project is specifically associated with the use of Raman spectroscopy for astrobiology studies (in preparation for the launch of the ExoMars rover). The work will involve obtaining and analysing data from a number of natural samples using a range of university facilities (including a prototype of the ExoMars Raman instrument).

- Raman Laser Spectrometer
The student will study astrobiology and Raman spectroscopy in order to investigate/optimise the scientific return from the Raman instrument on the ExoMars mission and will have the opportunity to work as part of a large international team, including Prof Howell Edwards, Bradford University and Dr Richard Ingley, University of Leicester.
