Entry requirements
We offer 4 year MPhys and 3 year BSc degrees in 5 different flavours: Physics, Physics with Astrophysics, Physics with Nanotechnology, Physics with Planetary Science, and Physics with Space Science and Technology. Typical entry requirements for 2012 are given below.
The typical offers below cover both MPhys and BSc degrees and are the same for all of our degree flavours.
- A/AS Levels: Three A-Levels including Physics and Mathematics. Typical offers: AAB (MPhys), ABB (BSc).
- International Baccalaureate: Pass Diploma, 36 points (MPhys) or 32 points (BSc), including Physics and Mathematics with at least one at higher level.
- European Baccalaureate: Pass with from 85% to 77% overall, including Physics and Mathematics.
- Other Qualifications: Other national and international qualifications welcomed. Please email us (physics_admissions@le.ac.uk) with any questions.
- Second Year Entry: Possible for candidates with advanced qualifications compatible with our degree structure.
Transfer between MPhys and BSc
Students who are working above a minimum standard can transfer from BSc to MPhys at the end of the first year. Transfer from MPhys to BSc is possible anytime before the end of the second year. If you apply for the MPhys degree and narrowly miss your offer we will typically consider you for the BSc.
Transfer between degree flavours
Our course is very flexible and it is easy to take specialist option courses and even projects from different degree flavours. Depending on the option courses you have taken, it is possible to swap between degree flavours (e.g. from Physics to Physics with Astrophysics) up to the end of year 3.
If you have any questions about the entry requirements, please contact physics_admissions@le.ac.uk.
