ndw7@le.ac.uk

Following completion of a PhD in domestic architecture, Nigel began his museum career with the MA in Museum Studies at Leicester

His first post was as Assistant Keeper of Social History at the Manx Museum in Douglas, Isle of Man, where he was part of the team which put together major new social history galleries. In 1994 he became Curator of Astley Hall Museum and Art Gallery in Chorley, a local authority museum set in a Grade I listed building. In 2002 Nigel returned to his 'architectural' roots by taking up the post of House and Collections manager at the National Trust's Elizabethan mansion, Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire.

Nigel has always taken a keen interest in professional development issues and has been Chair of the Social History Curator's Group and President of the North West Federation of Museums and Art galleries.
