Welcome to the School of Modern Languages at the University of Leicester, one of the leading centres for the study of languages, translation, cultures and international communication in the UK. Here we offer courses in modern language and culture in French, Italian and Spanish as well as courses in translation and international communication all in a warm, welcoming and state-of-the-art learning environment.

We offer a diverse range of course options including your choice of languages at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as translation studies and international communication and culture, joint degrees in collaboration with other departments, and research opportunities.

Our summer schools offer our first year students a unique opportunity to spend time in the country whose language they will be studying. These three-week courses will be fully funded by the University of Leicester.

Our staff all actively engage in academic research and we have all the resources you need to study effectively in our research centre.

The School of Modern Languages seeks expressions of interest from prospective research students in the 2015 AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership. The deadline for AHRC funding applications is Thursday 14 January 2015. Further Success for Modern Languages

The National Student Survey (NSS) results for 2014 have just been released and the University of Leicester scored top nationally for Iberian Studies with 100%.  French Studies also scored impressively with 93%.

The survey rates the opinions of final year students in six categories including academic support and personal development; the score from the overall satisfaction category is quoted above.

 

Success for Modern Languages at Leicester

The Guardian’s University League Table for 2015 has just been released and Modern Languages at Leicester is ranked 6th nationally. This is an outstanding result and a reflection of the excellent teaching provided by all colleagues. Our wide range of undergraduate programmes encourage you to develop your cultural skills and interests whilst working towards fluency in one or more languages.
