Welcome to the School of Modern Languages at the University of Leicester, one of the leading centres for the study of languages, translation, cultures and international communication in the UK. Here we offer courses in modern language and culture in French, Italian and Spanish as well as courses in translation and international communication all in a warm, welcoming and state-of-the-art learning environment.

We offer a diverse range of course options including your choice of languages at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as translation studies and international communication and culture, joint degrees in collaboration with other departments, and research opportunities.

Our summer schools offer our first year students a unique opportunity to spend time in the country whose language they will be studying. These three-week courses will be fully funded by the University of Leicester.

Our staff all actively engage in academic research and we have all the resources you need to study effectively in our research centre.

Students' Union Awards

Departmental successes in the recent first ever annual Students' Union Awards. The Modern Languages Society was voted winner for Best Academic Society of the Year and we are particularly pleased to congratulate two of our students who won individual awards:  Kaija V won Graduate Intern of the Year and Joanna B was runner-up for Student Ambassador of the Year.

Masters Excellence Studentships

Graduating Students

£5,500 towards tuition fees and a stipend worth £6,750

Available to students applying for a Masters degree in an arts, humanities or law subject, starting in 2014.
