Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies
Since its launch in February 2011, the Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies (formally known as the Research Centre) has been a focal point for our staff research and programme development in these fields, and has helped us build upon our interaction with the wider community within the University as well as nationally and internationally. The Centre has strong links with China, the Middle East and the Far East as well as locally and nationally.
We organise regular research seminars and conferences. We supervise research students and host academic visitors. We host visiting speakers, visiting fellows and academic visitors.
Our members teach the school’s programmes in translation and interpreting. We also offer expert advice to the wider community, and provide short courses for external clients.
The centre was host to the AHRC-funded Translating Cultures Network Key Cultural Texts in Translation. From November 2012 to July 2013 the Centre collaborated with the Intercultural Studies Group, Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Spain) and the European Society for Translation Studies on a research project on translation in language learning commissioned by the Directorate General for Translation of the European Union.
If you are interested in getting involved with the Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies, we offer an MA in Translation Studies, which can be studied full-time for one year, or part-time over two years. We also offer funding opportunities for PhD proposals in areas of Translation and Interpreting Studies.
We welcome enquiries from potential students, so if you would like to discuss your research plans informally, please email ModLangPHD@le.ac.uk
