Polish is one of the most important Slavic languages of Central Europe. It is now widely used in Polish immigrant communities in the UK.

Beginners (level 1)

This is for learners with little or no prior knowledge of Polish. You will learn basic skills to enable you to make yourself understood and to find out information in everyday situations.

Course Content

Term One: Topics covered include: greetings, introducing yourself, forms of address – colloquial and formal. Family relationships, locations, directions, names, quantities. Likes and dislikes, describing people and objects. Polish holidays and customs, shopping.

Term Two: Topics covered include: more detailed descriptions of oneself, one’s family and friends and other people, exchanging personal details; telling the time, reading timetables, making plans, arranging meetings; talking about hobbies, asking for/giving more detailed directions, describing own home, town/city; real life situations: ordering at a bar/restaurant, going out, meeting friends, more shopping at, small talk, short correspondence (emails, cards).
