Modern Greek
Modern Greek is the descendant on the language of Homer and the great classical dramatists. It has influenced all European languages including Latin. Many English words have come from Greek through Latin and French. Modern Greek is the official language of both Greece and Cyprus and is one of the 23 official languages of the European Union. Modern Greek is spoken today by approximately 14-17 million people.
Beginners
Course Level
This is for learners with little or no prior knowledge of Greek. You will learn basic skills to enable you to make yourself understood and to find out information in everyday situations.
Course Content
Term One: Greek alphabet ad pronunciation, expressing greetings, introducing yourself, give and understand personal details (name, telephone number, nationality, country, etc), talk about family, ordering food and drinks, asking for the bill, expressing likes and dislikes, ask for repetition, numbers 0-100.
Term Two: Finding out travel times, buying tickets, asking and understanding simple directions, asking for accommodation, making enquires, days of the week, months, seasons, the weather, asking for something in a shop, describing things.
