Why study Media at Leicester

Expertise of our People

The academic staff in the Department of Media and Communication contains some of the leading experts in their specialist fields not just in the UK but also internationally.  Our ethos is to support top-class research that is translated into top-class teaching.

League Table Success

In 2010, the Department of Media and Communication was ranked second in the UK by The Times, third by The Independent and fourth by The Guardian out of around 80 communications, cultural and media studies departments in higher education institutions across the country.  These rankings were based on assessments of the Department's teaching, quality and diversity of student intake, degree results, and research.

University of the Year

The University of Leicester won the coveted University of the Year award for 2008-09 awarded by the Times Higher Education magazine, which recognised the excellence of its research and teaching.

Widening Participation

The University of Leicester is the only top 20 UK university, as ranked by The Times, to meet its benchmarks as set by government in terms of recruitment of state school pupils and students from lower socio-economic groups.

Student Support

We provide a highly supportive environment for our students to promote a positive learning experience and encourage wider reflection about what has been learnt.  The University of Leicester won the 2009/2010 Times Higher Education award for Best Student Support in the UK.

Listening to our Students

We operate varied feedback systems through which our students can provide feedback to us about their experiences and our performance and to encourage everyone to play their part as stakeholders in the learning experience we provide.  We believe that we can learn from our students just as they learn from us.

The MA New Media and Society at Leicester is a challenging and intellectually stimulating course taught within a vibrant academic environment.
