Abstract:

Projective algebraic varieties mostly have moduli spaces that are themselves algebraic varieties, and it is important to study the geometry of these. I will explain what some of the known results and some of the open problems are, especially for K3 surfaces, abelian varieties and curves, and describe some techniques from number theory involving modular forms that can be used to obtain geometric information of this kind.
