Andy Tonks (London Metropolitan University):

Abstract: For any exact category or Waldhausen category C, the group K0C has a straightforward presentation in terms of generators and relations. Our aim is to find such an "easy" presentation of the group K1C. In fact we are able to give a small (and functorial) algebraic model for the 2-stage Postnikov section of the K-theory spectrum of C, and use our presentation to describe the multiplicative structure with respect to biexact functors.
