will be given by Roger Penrose, University of Oxford. The Public Lecture will take place at 5pm in the Peter Williams Lecture Theatre, Fielding Johnson Building South Wing (University maps and directions)

Afternoon workshops and Splinter Groups

A new feature of the BMC this year will be a programme of research workshops, each running over the afternoons of Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 April. The workshops will include a mixture of invited and volunteered talks. The six workshops will cover

In addition to the workshops, there will be splinter groups in the History of Mathematics and in Mathematics Education (hosted by the MSOR network).

On Tuesday 19 April there will be a session devoted to issues related to Maths and the EPSRC. David Harman, Head of the Mathematical Sciences Programme at EPSRC will give a short presentation, followed by a general discussion.

On Thursday 21 April there will be a session run by the LMS on their initiatives and projects related to supporting mathematics in the developing world including the Mentoring African Research in Mathematics (MARM) initiative  and the Volunteer Lecturer Programme of the IMU.

Arrival, and where everything is 

Details on how to get to the University of Leicester, including to the Main Site and the Halls of Residence, can be found here . The lectures will all take place on the Main Site; the accommodation used by the BMC will be in John Foster Hall on the Oadby Site; if you have booked accommodation then you will have been sent details about it. Here is a map indicating the way between the Main Site and John Foster Hall.

The registration and help desk for the Meeting will be in the foyer of the Bennett Building (Main Site); the Bennett Building also holds the main Exhibition room for the BMC, which contains the Publishers' stands, the Tea and Coffee point and the Poster presentations. The lectures will be held in a variety of buildings a short walk from the Bennett Building.

Please note that there is generally no parking available actually on the main site, though there are a variety of public car parks close by. There is parking available on a first come first served basis at or around the halls of residence.

Lunches are available at the Main Site from a number of different venues. These will be indicated at the relevant times.
