G-STEM Applications
A conference for year 12 students
This will take place on Tuesday 28th June 2011 at the
University of Leicester
On Tuesday 28th June 2011 we would like to invite you and your pupils, to attend our annual G-STEM Applications Conference which is being hosted by our College of Science and Engineering here at the University of Leicester. This 1 day student conference is FREE and is for your Year 12 pupils, who are currently taking Sciences and/or Social Sciences at AS-level or equivalent, and are interested in studying any of the STEM subjects, Geography or Economics at university in the future.
The College of Science and Engineering, which comprises the departments of Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics & Astronomy, are being supported in the delivery of this event by colleagues from our Genetics and Economics departments to offer you a broad range of interesting topics to engage and excite your students.
The event will give your pupils a real taster of studying STEM based courses at university and how these can lead to satisfying and rewarding career opportunities in the future. On the day, pupils will have a chance to interact with current university students, gain relevant information and advice on university and future careers, whilst engaging in a choice of activities in subject areas such as:
• Chemistry
• Economics
• Engineering
• Genetics
• Geography
• Geology
• Mathematics
• Physics & Astronomy
• Interdisciplinary Science

For this event we have approximately 300 pupil places available. There is a high level of interest from schools and colleges and so if you would be like to bring a group of students on the day, please email CSEOutreach@le.ac.uk as soon as possible, giving us your name, your school name and an approximate number of students you would like to attend the event. When thinking about selecting your students to attend, in the first instance, can you please target your recruitment towards Year 12 students in your Aimhigher / Widening Participation Cohorts who have an interest in any of the subjects being represented at the event.
