The department of mathematics is looking for expressions of interest from people wishing to become associate tutors for their successful MSc/PgDip in Actuarial Science by distance learning. The course is accredited by the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries and covers the CT1-8 syllabus across eight taught modules.
As one of the UK’s leading universities for postgraduate distance learning provision, Leicester has developed a range of innovative support methods for those taking the Actuarial Science programme. The course is taught via a mixture of traditional printed materials and the virtual online learning environment – Blackboard. Students are encouraged to interact with on another online and discuss key concepts of their study material, with associate tutors helping to moderate and develop these. In addition you may be expected to help mark homework and exam papers, set discussion topics, devise formative questions and provide online tutorials.
As the only university distance learning course provider of Actuarial Science students have the flexibility to fit studying around current employment and lifestyle, whilst also working towards their professional accreditation and are typically based worldwide. An associate tutor could be expected to work flexibly to support one or more of the modules and should therefore be familiar with CT1-8 syllabus.
The modules covered in this programme are:
-
Economics
-
Finance and Financial Reporting
-
Actuarial Mathematics
-
Financial Mathematics
-
Risk
-
Financial Engineering
-
Contingencies
-

Ideally tutors would have FIA status or other relevant academic or professional qualifications. In addition an understanding of education provision and a commitment to providing top quality education to those studying at a distance is preferred. As an associate tutor you would need to have regular access to a computer and the internet and would be given associate status with the University of Leicester.
