Research
Research Interests: Algebraic Topology and Homotopy Theory.
I am a member of the Transpennine Topology Triangle, funded by a Scheme 3 London Mathematical Society grant to support homotopy theoretic collaboration between Leicester, Manchester and Sheffield.
My main research is mainly within Homotopy Theory, where I am working on homotopy theory of classifying spaces and a homotopy theoretic formulation of classical Lie group theory. In the last two years I also got very much interested in relations between Homotpy Theory and the combinatorics related to toric manifolds, Stanley-Reisner algebras and polytopes. There are various connections to homological algebra, invariant theory, Lie group theory, modular representation theory and modules and algebras over the Steenrod algebra. The following survey article, will serve as to give the flavor of my research concerning the homotopy theory of classifying spaces.
Classifying spaces of compact Lie groups and finite loop spaces, Handbook of Algebraic Topology, Editor: I.James, North Holland 1995, 1049-1094.
