University of Leicester Counselling and Psychotherapy Research Clinic (ULCPRC)

About the Clinic

ULCPRC logoThe ULCPRC has been set up by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Programme of the University of Leicester Institute of Lifelong Learning, to offer a professionally organised free, short, medium and long term counselling and psychotherapy service to staff and students of the University.

ULCPRC will have the dual function of a research clinic, and both therapists and clients will be required to participate in various forms of data collection, all entirely protected by confidentiality agreements.

In addition, the Clinic aims to improve:

  • The training and effectiveness of therapists by teaching them how to integrate research into counselling and psychotherapy, and developing better ways of studying therapy.
  • The effectiveness of therapists through understanding the role of clinical supervision and its impact on practice.

ULCPRC Research Focus
The ULCPRC provides a unique opportunity to investigate change processes in longer term psychodynamic therapy and the impact of feedback on both client progress and therapist development.
The supervision data affords a unique opportunity to research group supervision and its impact on both therapy and therapist development.
