MPhil/PhD (Counselling and Psychotherapy)
Field of Research
Counselling and psychotherapy are relatively new professions and there is much to be explored about theory and practice within these fields. Counselling is being offered in an increasingly diverse range of settings, new techniques are always being introduced, and an evidence base for practice is slowly evolving in Britain. However, the field is still wide open for future enquiry and much more research work is needed to underpin the values and beliefs that guide counselling practice and service delivery.
The MPhil/PhD (Counselling and Psychotherapy) will allow you to explore the broad range of methodological approaches to research, drawing on current and emerging theories, techniques, and practices of conducting research into counselling and psychotherapy. The course is led and taught by visionary researchers at the forefront of the profession.

What do our students say?
"I have absolutely loved doing my PhD and have gained so much from it - personally and professionally. I continue to be surprised, stimulated and delighted by what I am learning about psychotherapy and counselling and the positive impact it has had on my client work, my supervision work and my teaching. I have been both supported and challenged to develop in new and sometimes surprising ways."
