Professor Claire Grant
A new CELI member and Convenor of the Public Law and Human Rights cluster. She works in political philosophy and the philosophy of law, including various questions to do with law, liberty and equality. Some recent work in these areas lies in constitutional theory and rights and some recent publications are: 'Compensation and the Exercise of Rights' in Melissa Lane (ed.), Archiv fur Recht und Ethik, 2008; 'Secret Laws' Ratio Juris 2011, forthcoming. Claire's current work is on oppression, law and the political agency of the oppressed.
Dr Lorna Gillies
Currently on sabattical and has, in response to recent advancements in the field, commenced research for her next project on the Europeanisation of the Conflict of Laws. Her recent publications and work in progress include a paper on Rome II and Proposals for an EU Consumer Collective Redress Mechanism (forthcoming, in Kenny and Devenney (eds), CUP 2011), a case note on C-585/08 Peter Pammer v Reedere Karl Schluter GmbH & Co and C-144/09 Hotel Alpenhof GesmbH v Oliver Heller for ICLQ on the operation of the jurisdiction rule in Article 15(1)(c) of the Brussels I Regulation (EC 44/2001) vis-a-vis consumer contracts conducted via the internet and a paper on the 'Europeanisation of the Conflict of Laws: Scottish Perspectives' for the Journal of Private International Law Conference in Milan, April 2011 (http://conflictoflaws.net/2010/call-for-papers-journal-of-private-international-law-conference-2011-in-milan/). Lorna plans to present discrete aspects of her current research at two international conferences later in 2011.
Dr Mel Kenny
Recently completed an article: 'Effectiveness in the wake of Traghetti' which is under review. During Semester 1 of the academic year 2011-2012 Mel will be on sabbatical leave and is arranging a series of external lectures

Writing a second edition of the book The Regulation of the State in Competitive Markets in the EU (Hart, 2012).
