After graduating in 1973, David Monk spent six years lecturing in Employment Law at Leicester Polytechnic, also co-lecturing Legal Theory for five of those years. He then qualified as a solicitor, initially undertaking a broad practice. Later, as head of the litigation department, he focussed principally on employment law and crime, particularly enjoying the opportunities for advocacy which those disciplines offered, and the challenging experience of police station work as a duty solicitor.

To further his interest in advocacy, David transferred to the Bar in 1991. Although for many years he maintained a practice embracing both Employment Law and Crime, he now practices almost exclusively in Employment Law, regularly appearing in Employment Tribunals in the Midlands and beyond. Currently he heads the employment law team at New Walk Chambers in Leicester: www.newwalkchambers.co.uk

In 1999, he achieved a Distinction in his LL.M. and commenced teaching at the University of Leicester in that year.

He currently teaches on the LL.M in Employment Law (Distance Learning) Course, with occasional lectures to the LL.B. Undergraduate Students.

He is approved by the Middle Temple as a Pupil Master.
