Astronomy and the Oracle of Delphi
Originally the Oracle at Delphi could only be consulted on Apollo's birthday, but how do you go about working out the birthday of a Greek god?
Welcome to our visitors from the 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast.
If you have 25 minutes to spare, then you can see a presentation on research into the connections between the constellation Delphinus and the oracle of Apollo at Delphi below. The video has been chopped into four sections, but this player should play them in sequence.
If you have access to the journal Antiquity you can download the paper. If you don't have access but would like to read it anyway you'll have to email Alun for a copy at the email address at the end of the presentation. You can also read what he's blogged about it.
If you want to read more about Delphi in general there are good pages at About.com, The Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Livius.org.
