We are proud of our longstanding reputation for historical research of international quality, and in the RAE 2008, 50% of our research was designated world leading and 90% was judged to be internationally significant.

|We are home to two internationally-recognised research centres and our staff are also heavily involved in three multidisciplinary research centres with other colleagues in the University.||
We have a strong record of receiving grants from various funding bodies, in particular the AHRC, British Academy, ESRC, Leverhulme Trust and Wellcome Trust.
