Postgraduate Study

The School of History has a thriving postgraduate community. We offer a variety of degrees, which reflect the expertise of our staff allowing us to offer a diverse teaching programme and support a large and vibrant research culture. Our postgraduate degrees are challenging, rewarding and are designed to develop skills which will enhance your career prospects. Our PhD students have been in the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award scheme which has given them the opportunity to work with external organisations such as English Heritage, Victoria County History Trust and the Society of Apothecaries.

All our postgraduate degrees are campus-based and taught via full- or part-time study.

Part-time Study

We welcome applications from students who wish to study part-time and all of our postgraduate programmes can be studied though this route. Studying part-time enables you to combine your studies with other commitments and spreads the cost of the course over a longer period and is popular with students of all ages and backgrounds.

International Students

Our postgraduate community is drawn from a range of countries and currently includes researchers from many countries, including Brazil,  China,  France, Germany  Italy, Iraq, Kuwait and the  United States. The School contains extensive research expertise in European, American, Global and Colonial History and welcomes applications from students of all nationalities.  Advice for international postgraduate researchers wishing to apply to Leicester can be found here.
