Course Overview
The MA Urban History is the only such MA in the UK and offers a broad interdisciplinary introduction to the study of the city, from classical antiquity to modern times. The course will provide you with an illuminating introduction to the historical study of towns and cities, an introduction to research design and will improve your use of electronic resources and management of electronic datasets.
Course Structure
In the first semester you will take the two core modules Historical Research Methods and The City in History. During the second semester you will have the opportunity to select from a variety of options to suit your interests. You will also write a 20,000 word dissertation on an approved topic of your choice under the direction of a supervisor.

Part-time students
The requirements of the course are spread over two years. In the first year you will take Historical Research Methods in semester one and an option/ specialist module in semester two. In the second year you will take The City in History in semester one followed by a further option/ specialist module in semester two. As with full- time students you will write a 20,000 word dissertation.
