Course Aims
The MA History provides the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of central themes and issues concerned with the study of history. We offer a range of modules designed to suit a wide spectrum of interests. We also provide you with the knowledge, understanding and experience of research methods and practices in history, and equip you with the necessary research skills to continue research at doctoral level. The degree also enhances your attractiveness to employers by developing key transferable skills.
Course Structure
The degree is divided equally between two core research training modules and two optional history modules, plus a 15- 20,000 word dissertation. The dissertation offers you the opportunity to explore an approved research topic of your own choosing, under the guidance of a supervisor.

Part-time Students
The requirements of the course are spread over two years, with students taking a core research training module in each year. You take Historical Research Methods in semester one of the first year, followed by an option module in semester two. In the second year you will take another option module in the first semester and Social Theory and History in the final semester. You will also complete your 15- 20,000 word dissertation in the second year.
