Course Overview
The MA in English Local History aims to provide you with training, up to research level, in the 'Leicester' approach to English Local History. The course stresses comparative landscape and community, with emphasis on cultural regions, historical ecology, regional identities, and is interdisciplinary in its methodologies.
Course Structure
The degree consists of four core modules, a field course and a dissertation. The field course is a one week residential course which takes place in a region outside of the East Midlands and involves intensive study of the landscape. The dissertation consists of a maximum of 20,000 words and allows you to explore an approved research topic of your own choosing.

Part-time students
The requirements of the course are spread over two years. In the first year you study two core modules plus the field course, with the remaining two core modules being taken in the second year. You will also complete your 20,000 word dissertation in the second year.
