Postgraduate Study
Staff in the School discuss what studying for a postgraduate degree involves.
Available Degrees
The School of Historical Studies has a thriving postgraduate community. We offer a variety of degrees, which reflect the expertise of our staff allowing us to offer a diverse teaching programme and support a large and vibrant research culture. Our postgraduate degrees are challenging, rewarding and are designed to develop skills which will enhance your career prospects. All our postgraduate degrees are campus-based and taught via full- or part-time study.
New History Lab
New History Lab was founded in 2008 by postgraduates who wanted something friendlier than a seminar but more interactive than a lecture. The scientists have their laboratory as a place to meet and talk, we have our New History Lab. New History Lab is run by postgraduates for postgraduates across all disciplines who love history. In 2010/11 we held LABS on all manner of things, from Speed Researching (like Speed Dating but not so boring) to Building an Alternative Musem for Leicester (with friends from Museum Studies), from Leicester's Got Talent (how imaginative can you be in a research proposal?) to a Mad Men symposium on American cultural history. Our special guests were Will Kaufmann who sang Woody Guthrie at Christmas; Jonathan Foyle who dangles from ropes in the interests of architectural history; and Julie Etchingham, TV Presenter of the Year, who told us why history is such a great degree for journalism.
