Research Interests

Research Themes

I research on the history of the crusades. I began my career by studying the characteristics and reception of crusading against Christian rulers in the 13th and 14th centuries, moving into the evolution of crusading in the late Middle Ages. I have published on most of the crusading expeditions between 1095 and 1600, and the thinking and organizational practices that underpinned them.
