The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Leicester is led by Professor Joseph Dias.
Most of Professor Dias's research is clinically based investigating intervention effectiveness in prospective randomised studies for various disorders of the hand providing a high level of evidence and has altered management of various disorders, provision of hand surgery and assessment outcome.

Professor Dias is the Acting Head of the Clinical Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Leicester, where the main research theme is the outcome of joint replacement, based on a large prospectively collected database.
He is the President of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, Secretary of the British Orthopaedic Association, British Orthopaedic Research Society, Association of Professors of Orthopaedic Surgery, Indian Society for Surgery of the Hand, FESSH and IFSSH
