About the Department
The University of Leicester Department of Health Sciences was formed in 2003 as result of reorgnisation of the Medical School. The Department is engaged in internationally competitive research across a wide range of topics, including epidemiology, medical statistics, public health, primary care, health services research, and psychiatry.
The Department has a complement of approximately 140 academic, research and teaching, and administrative support staff and around 100 taught postgraduate students.

Research in the Department
External research funding, currently standing in excess of £19 million, is provided by NIHR, MRC, Wellcome Trust, Leverhulme Trust, the Department of Health, Diabetes UK and NICE, and other funding bodies and UK charities.

Leicester Clinical Trials Unit
The Department of Health Sciences administers and manages the Leicester Clinical Trials Unit on behalf of the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology.
