2013 PhD Studentships and Masters Degree Bursaries Available Now

The University of Leicester has announced a £1.5 million investment in funded PhD studentships and Masters degree bursaries.

English Language In-Sessional Training for International Research Students

ELTU’s course Academic English for Postgraduates and Staff will be running again 28th January – 22nd March 2013. The course consists of 8 two-hour lessons and students are expected to attend each lesson; the course is available in a version specifically designed for research students.

Research students wanting to register for this course should attend one of the ELTU registration sessions at the following times:

21st January 15:00-16:00
22nd January 17:00-18:00
23rd January 17:00-18:00

Registration sessions take place at Readson House - map and directions to Readson House.

ELTU will be present at the Graduate School induction morning 29th January to promote this course; research students who miss the registration sessions can still register up to three weeks late – contact ELTU to learn more.

Take Part in the Festival of Postgraduate Research 2013

At the 2013 Festival of Postgraduate Research fifty current research students will be invited to present their work to the wider University, employers, and the public.

We are looking for research students in any discipline who can:

  • present their research as a poster
  • communicate their work in an engaging and accessible way
  • share their enthusiasm for their work with a varied audience

Prestigious Award for Criminology Postgraduate

Graham Smaul of the Department of Criminology has been named the winner of this year’s Imbert Award by the Association of Security Consultants. Graham won the prize for his dissertation on risk management and business continuity management policies and procedures at Dublin Airport.

Year’s Best Paper Award for PhD Graduate's Cell Structure Research

The Journal of Cell Science has recognised outstanding work by University of Leicester PhD graduate Carla Lopes by giving her the Journal's prize for the Year's Best Paper for a paper she co-authored and which appeared in the February 2011 of the Journal. Carla completed her PhD at Leicester in December 2010.

Congratulations to All Festival of Postgraduate Research 2012 Winners

The Festival of Postgraduate Research took place 17th May 2012 and the winner of the Graduate Dean's Prize for Best Poster at the Festival was Laura MacKenzie of the Department of Politics and International Relations. Congratulations to Laura and the other Festival prize winners.

Poster Prize for Leicester Chemistry Research Student

Congratulations to Kathryn Pugh, currently studying for a PhD in our Department of Chemistry, who won a poster prize at the Royal Society of Chemistry Organic Chemistry Midlands Section Meeting. Kathryn was one of 15 postgraduate students from Leicester who presented their work at the meeting.
