MRC Funded PhD Studentships - Medicine, Biological Sciences, and Psychology
At the University of Leicester's College of Medicine, Biological Sciences, and Psychology we pride ourselves on the world-class status of our research. We are delighted to invite applications for these full-time PhD studentships, funded by a Doctoral Training Grant from the Medical Research Council (MRC), to support projects addressing the molecular causes of disease with the aim of identifying new therapeutic targets for subsequent pre-clinical and clinical development. The successful applicants will receive training in translational research and the application of fundamental research to clinical problems.
The studentships are tenable for up to three years six months in the first instance and will pay full-time University UK/EU tuition fees and include an annual tax-free stipend (currently £13,590) as well as an annual £300 allowance for travel/conference expenses. The successful applicants will be expected to commence their studies in October 2011.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have - or expect to obtain - a first or upper-second class honours degree in a relevant discipline from a UK university or equivalent institution. Applicants whose first language is not English must have achieved an IELTS score of at least 6.5 or hold a degree where the medium of instruction was English.
The studentships are only available to applicants who are eligible to pay the UK/EU tuition fee - i.e., those who are permanently resident in the UK or another EU country. Please note that applicants from the EU (excluding the UK)must have been resident in the UK for at least three years prior to commencing the studentship to receive both the stipend and fee components of this award; EU applicants who do not meet this criteria will receive the fee component only. Applicants from outside the EU are not eligible for these studentships unless they have been granted permanent UK residency/citizenship.
The studentships are for full-time study only and applicants must be able to commence their studies in October 2011.
